Hiroki Matsuura was born, raised and educated in Japan. He matured professionally in the Netherlands. As an aesthetic engineer, Hiroki cooks Japanese Zen and Dutch Pragmatism into innovative designs.
In 2015, together with Rene Sangers, Hiroki founded MASA architects, specialising in architecture/interior/product design. And in addition to MASA, Hiroki founded MADMA urbanism+landscape in 2018, specialising in urban and landscape design.
Hiroki’s extensive track record and expertise ranges from large-scale urban design, landscape design to architecture and interior design, based on 21 years (14 years as a partner) of professional practice in international fields at MAXWAN. With the precision of an engineer, he unravels complexity and transforms it into intelligent simplicity. His approach results in contemporary, socially relevant design solutions that benefit our clients.
Hiroki teaches and lectures at the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam, the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture and Urban Design, and is a visiting professor at MARCH (The Moscow School of Architecture) (his role has been suspended since the start of the current war with Ukraine). And he used to be a member of the Urban Council at the Skolkovo Foundation in Moscow (his role has been suspended since the current war with Ukraine started).
Since 2022 he has been the master plan consultant for the reconstruction of Irpin, Ukraine.
